National Institute for Professional Process Service Course Descriptions The Professional Process Servers Training Program is presented in four segments. The first segment is… Basic. Establishing a foundation for further study, the student is provided with an overview of the American legal and judicial systems, the constitutional requirements of due process of law, an outline of a typical civil case and examples of the various types of civil process. Additionally, the student is instructed on the methods of service and limitations thereon. A code of ethical and professional conduct is also discussed.

second segment is…
State Specific. This segment advances the student to the specific requirements of the State within which he or she conducts business, either as a professional process server, or as one requesting the services of a process server. In this segment, the student will review the structure of the State and Federal Courts within that jurisdiction and the relevant court rules and statutes. The role of the Sheriff as it relates to the service of civil process is discussed. The student will be instructed on licensing or certification requirements, if any, within that State, and the procedure by which to obtain such authorization. Lastly, the student is provided with an overview of local practice and procedure. Sample forms commonly used in that jurisdiction are provided.

third segment is…
Advanced-National. The third segment consists of more advanced study related to the service of process outside of the student's State as well as serving process being sent from a foreign state. The topics of discussion include forwarding initial process to another state; service of initial process from a foreign state; service of federal summons, complaints and subpoenas within and outside the jurisdiction; compelling non-party witness to appear at depositions within and outside the state for use in state court actions. forth segment is…
Advanced-International. The last segment consists of more advanced study related to service of civil process outside of the United States. In this segment, the student will review the various international treaties under which service of civil process is accomplished in a foreign country, the requirements and procedures within and outside the United States to request issuance of foreign process, manner of service and the limitations and costs related thereto.
